AUSTRALIAN!

Compiled with apologies to James Schofield (Australia)

The DAY12 Phrase Book has been lovingly compiled by Day12 readers from around the world to arm you with a few words and phrases for your next destination. From basic vocabulary such as 'Yes', 'No' and 'Thank-you', and simple structures like, 'Where is the..?' and 'How much is this?' to the more advanced, 'Are you sure this is a different temple?' and 'Is that a ghost?!', The DAY12 Phrase Book will help you get by with the minimum of fuss and the maximum of fun. Enjoy, or as they say in France, 'Cafe au lait!'

Pronunciation: It would be impossible to adequately express, in text, how welcome you feel when you walk into a party and an Aussie friend says, 'mate!!' (usually followed by "He's a Pom, but he's alright!"). Try some of the phrases below, preferably with a few tinnies, and With a little practice, 'You'll be right, mate!'

Warning: The staff at More than footprints? would like to point out that whilst we have stuck fairly closely to James's suggestions, we did get a bit carried away and added some phrases of our own... for comedic effect. it has been suggested that some people might have trouble telling our phrases from James's so if, having looked through the list below, you think you might get into trouble using our phrase book down-under, you may want to seriously think about staying at home and getting a job in a bank during your gap-year. We would also highly recommend that you read the our article, '26 Ways to Die Down-under' and decide whether you'll make it back alive from Oz, or not.
